Product Description

Protect-a-Cycle™ is the unique and patented high security version of Trimetals’ all-metal bicycle store, which is designed to provide highly secure and convenient storage for up to three adult bikes and all your general cycling equipment at an affordable price. This upgraded version of Protect-a-Cycle features a hinged front ramp which provides enhanced accessibility to your bikes and is particularly helpful when storing heavier electric bikes. Protect-a-Cycle has achieved Police Preferred Specification status from Secured by Design (SBD), the official UK police security initiative, and has been tested and certified by the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) and awarded the LPS1175 Security Rating A1 (SR1) for its high security features and its strength and resistance to break-in attacks. Protect-a-Cycle has also been tested and featured by a number of leading UK cycling magazines including Cycling Weekly, Cycling World and Mountain Biking UK. Cycling Weekly said the unit is “robust enough to deter anyone breaking in, a sound investment and highly recommended”.

Ultra-secure and long-lasting bike storage

Protect-a-Cycle is manufactured in the UK using PVC coated galvanised steel which is fire-resistant, maintenance fee and guaranteed for 25 years. The unit’s all-metal construction makes it strong, secure and highly durable, ensuring your treasured and valuable two-wheeled possessions are well protected from thieves and the elements. Protect-a-Cycle comes complete with a range of security features which enhance its security over and above that of the standard Trimetals all-metal bicycle store. It has a reinforced integral metal floor and is supplied with two stainless steel hasps with heavy duty (Sold Secure Silver Approved) padlocks to secure the door, as well as a heavy duty (Sold Secure Silver Approved) ground anchor, a LPCB tested security cable and a third Sold Secure Silver Approved padlock to secure your cycles inside the unit and prevent them being removed. Additional padlock points (up to a maximum of four) can be fitted as optional extras to further enhance the security of the unit. The unit is designed to be bolted down to a hard (concrete) surface from the inside from the inside for added security (all necessary bolts are supplied).

Easy “walk-in access” design / Simple DIY construction

Protect-a-Cycle features a clever spring-assisted opening action that makes opening and closing of its concertina-style door exceptionally smooth as well as a hinged front ramp that allows easy and complete “walk-in” access to your bikes. The clever patented front ramp design simply drops down when access to your bikes is needed and then folds back into position to form the front lower base of the unit when closed. Reinforced metal hinges are incorporated along the length of the ramp which is designed to support the weight of a cyclist and a bicycle. The access ramp does not reduce the storage space within the unit. The unit is supplied in a convenient flat pack and is very simple to construct, with all major components being supplied pre-assembled including the door and roof. The unit comes with easy-to-follow illustrated assembly instructions and all necessary fixings. Trimetals recommends assembly of the unit is undertaken by a minimum of two people.

Options and upgrades

Protect-a-Cycle is available in a choice of three colours: cream, anthracite and olive and moorland green. Optional accessories are available to further enhance and maximise the useability and security of the unit including a ramp access and a motion-sensing PIR alarm with key fob control. The ramped version of Protect-a-Cycle features a convenient hinged front ramp which drops down to provide additional accessibility to your bikes, and folds back into position to form the lower front base of the unit when closed. The ramped version of Protect a Cycle is also available as a standalone product from My Secure Garden.

What is SBD / Police Preferred Specification?

Secured by Design (SBD) is the official police security initiative that works to improve the security of buildings and their surroundings.

SBD’s product based accreditation scheme – the Police Preferred Specification - provides a recognised standard for all security products that can deter and reduce crime.

My Secure Garden has carefully selected some of the attack resistant crime prevention products which have achieved Police Preferred Specification.

SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK.

What is the LPCB?

Established more than 150 years ago, the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) is a globally recognised third-party certification body.

Part of BRE, the LPCB has worked with industry and insurers since 1868 to set the standards needed to make sure that fire and security products and services perform effectively.

The LPCB’s Loss Prevention Standards (LPS) are widely recognised and applied in fire and security sectors around the world. The LPCB has produced a specific standard for standalone padlocks (LPS 1645) based on a testing regime which focusses on their level of manual attack resistance.

The LPCB also offers third-party certification to confirm that products and services have met, and will continue to meet, these standards.
